We currently are enrolling for our PreK program!
We currently do not have the enrollment to justify a full-time PreK class and teacher. We are working with a part-time PreK schedule. This involves the children that are developmentally ready for PreK to have PreK sessions throughout the day. We currently do not have the enrollment to justify a full-time PreK class and teacher. At Southside, we focus on the whole child's development. The children that are ready for a PreK curriculum are in the Teddy Bear classroom for most of the day. Throughout the day, they receive the social and emotional piece of the curriculum through center time and whole group time. They also receive the gross motor piece in the Teddy Bear classroom through outside play. For the cognitive piece, they receive special one-on-one or small group guidance that focuses on the cognitive skills specified for a PreK student. At Southside, we use the Lousiana State Grade Level Expectations or GLEs as a building block for what our children need to know. We go above and beyond the GLEs and focus on individualized instruction. We meet the children where they are, and build upon that.Lions' Class
This class operates from August through May; with a big graduation ceremony in May. The preschoolers then become Summer Campers until they begin Kindergarten in the Fall. In this class we have 4 and 5 year olds. The child/teacher ratio is 10:1. This class is a preparatory class for Kindergarten. Children are writing their names; organizing numbers in ordinal order; sharing; singing songs; speaking French; following directions; writing letters; etc. Children graduating out of our Lions class are well prepared for any private school in the area. All PreK (Lions) parents are invited each year to our Kindergarten Bonanza; where parents learn about different private schools in the Baton Rouge area. Information disseminated includes enrollment packets, ratios, philosophy, tuition prices, enrollment requirements, etc. This service is greatly appreciated by our PreK parents.
